Staying in a villa near Torres Vedra, north of Lisbon. We’ve been watching Swifts gathering over the swimming pool and dipping in for a drink. It’s also the first time playing with super slomo on my phone.

Meteor Cam 11.08.20
A short clip from the meteor cam last night, an extremely bright, possible fireball in the south, followed by a longer meteor trail in the west, left of screen.
More from the meteor camera and Neowise
After a settling in period and a few tweaks the meteor camera seems to be working reliably. This is from a couple of weeks ago, there seem to be an awful lot of clouds at the moment.
And above is my only half decent attempt at comet Neowise. This is a single frame taken with a Canon 1000D, 200mm lens.
Meteor Camera
It’s taken a while but here is the first decent capture. Recorded at around 2.30am on 23/6/20. Don’t blink, it’s quick.
Nearly sunset
After a roasting hot day, 45 minutes to sunset.
Sunny spells and showers
As forecast, this afternoon a series of squally shows are coming over south Lincolnshire from the north west.
And then, an hour or so later, the sunny spells…
Sundog
Walking the dogs in the fields of south Lincolnshire this evening I caught sight of a sundog, a mini rainbow caused by ice crystals high in the sky.As always the photo doesn’t do it justice.
Red sky (after a red moon)
Reflected moon
Arvon Foundation
Getting back to normal now after a superb week at Lumb Bank, one of the centres belonging to the Arvon Foundation. The course was for novelists with a work in progress and was tutored by Maggie Gee and Adam Foulds. Both tutors were excellent, offering insightful comments and running tutorials and workshops throughout the week.
Part of what made for such a useful and educational week was the company. As well as such good tutors the fifteen attendees were a wide ranging group, covering all ages, genres and writing styles. In my opinion, maybe not worth very much but who knows, there were a couple of writers there who will be very successful in the near future. I hope I’m right, I’ll be keeping an eye out for them anyway.
